Right on my man, right on (trying to help with the whole 70′s jive thang). I’ve been married 3 years, after three decades of being single and there is no time, room or energy for jealousy. I actually kinda like it when girls hit on my husband (not sure why he married me, he’s gorgeous, athletic, sweet and a good person, I have debt, pudge and waaaay to many animals but he picked me!). I get to sidle up to him after awhile, give him a little winky*winky and this tall gorgeous creature follows ME home, take that SUCKAS!

I esp. like the jealousy advice and I’ve had to have this talk with my lady as well. It was great to read the truth of what you wrote and it’s exactly as I put it to her, that you have no control what another is going to do, so why waste time being jealous over it. You receive what you extend, so why not extend trust to your partner? It’s the only sane thing to do. And if one cannot truly trust their partner, then maybe they shouldn’t be with them, saving all parties involved a lot of hassle and grief. I told my lady that I’m not interested in cheating on her for somewhat selfish reasons since I don’t want to feel like crap about myself for doing something so shitty – If I’m honest with myself, I can be honest with her. I told her that she’d be the first to know when I no longer wanted to be with her – Honesty is the only way.

Regarding combining things once you’re married, I would rethink solely having a joint checking account. After being married for close to 13 years, and having restrictions on when and what I could spend, once I had my own account after my divorce, it was very refreshing not feeling the weirdness & pressure of expectations, disappointments, compromise, or resentment with regards to earning and spending. If couples are going to have a joint account, they may want to still retain individual accounts for what ever their personal interests & hobbies are, that way the other doesn’t feel like your plundering the joint account for your selfish interests.

I have a separate bank account…don’t feel like explaining why i need another skateboard. And she doesn’t want to explain yet another useless fucking expensive rug the dogs will seek out to piss on.

My wife tried to tell me she needed my paycheck each week and she would give me an allowance, but couldn’t even keep a straight face past the words,”…turn your paycheck over…”

That was 12+ years ago. Now I have a 22 x 22 workshop with a urinal and a beer fridge and a TV and surround sound and lots of tools and a motorcycle and if I need to….I could live out there like they do in the movies when the zombies start marching.

I love my wife, BTW, but get yourself a cave into which you can escape every so often.

You know what sucks too about crazy married couples? Clubbing with them. Our best couple friends are like this and when we all go out and the girls go dance together, we have to act lesbian, because one husband gets so bent out of shape if another guy looks at us. My husband trusts me and I can take care of myself. Sometimes, it is fun to dance with another man. Yes, I said it.

Word. Been married almost 18 years and have 2 kids. If I may brag, my kids are responsible, polite, and well behaved. They eat what we give them and go to bed when we say to and do their homework. Why? Because we are the bosses and don’t you forget that for one minute.

I’m still friends with 2 exes and dh is friends with one of his. Not close anymore, but we see them a few times a year at parties. No sweat.

Dead on, Dusty! The whole jealousy thing is idiotic. Hubby and I have been married for 17 years. We do Renaissance Faires, but most of the time I go by myself, since he works weekends. He has no problem with it. Hell, we were both at the Ren Faire the weekend that Hefner and his girlfriends were filming Girls Next Door, and they did a good bit in our area. (Our guild has the village with the Tavern, woolerie, blacksmith’s forge and whorehouse near the front gate.) It didn’t bother me that one of them tried to flirt with him – I thought it was kinda funny, really. Why? Well, as he later remarked to me, “She’s gorgeous, but really fuckin’ stupid! I just can’t do stupid.” I love that man…
